Santa Monica College Foundation to Hold a Four-Day Fire Disaster Support Distribution Event for Students, Staff, and Community January 22-24 and January 26, 2025
SANTA MONICA, CA — The Santa Monica College (SMC) Foundation will host a four-day Fire Disaster Support Distribution event January 22-24 and January 26 to provide essential aid to students, employees, and community members — including children, staff, and families in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District — who were impacted by the recent catastrophic fires in Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Malibu, Brentwood, and Greater Los Angeles County.
Donated items will be available for free at Corsair Gym at the Santa Monica College Main Campus, 1900 Pico Boulevard, Santa Monica, on the following dates and times:
- Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1 to 6 p.m.
- Thursday, Jan. 23, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Friday, Jan. 24, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
-
Sunday, Jan. 26, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Public Parking: Metered parking available. Limited parking available in Lot #3; enter from Pico at 17th Street Signal.
Media Parking: Truck parking available at SMC in alley adjacent to Corsair Gym at Pearl Street, at the intersection of 17th Street.
Thousands of generous donations — including food, new and gently used clothing (for men, women, children, and babies), hygiene products, baby supplies, blankets, and other necessities — were collected during the recent SMC Foundation resource and will be available for free. Each attendee will receive a complimentary IKEA blue bag (while supplies last) to “shop.” A detailed list of available goods is posted at smc.edu/disastersupport.
Providence St. John’s Health Center mobile van service will be present during the distribution of goods, providing masks, small care kits, and immunizations for children.
The SMC Foundation has also established the Santa Monica Community College Disaster Support Fund to raise at least $250,000 to help SMC students and employees impacted by the fires with emergency funding for items like housing, food, water, clothing, transportation, medical supplies, school materials, and other basic needs. A comprehensive list of community disaster relief services is posted at smc.edu/disasterrelief.
Volunteers are still needed. Santa Monica College needs volunteers January 18 - January 26 to help sort, package and distribute donations at its Main Campus at 1900 Pico Boulevard in Santa Monica. Interested volunteers can sign-up here.
